Tom Emens - CSU Channel Islands

Tom Emens is the Multimedia Coordinator for Communication & Marketing at CSU Channel Islands. In this role, he manages the production and delivery of multiple forms of media - including social media. In his 25 years in design and multimedia, he has witnessed the advent of desktop publishing, HTML, web applications and many other types of media.

From 1996-2002, Emens worked as a multimedia specialist at the Robert Kennedy Library at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. It was there that he was able to hone his skills as a designer across multiple types of media, including print, web, video, and Flash. With the advent of web applications and the demand for multimedia skills, Emens moved to Camarillo in 2002 to join CSU Channel Islands in their effort to build a media hub for the fledgling university. He continued in this role until 2008 when he transitioned over to Academic Technology to support the media needs of the students and faculty.

In 2012, Emens joined the Communication & Marketing team in his current role as a Multimedia Coordinator and reports to the Director of Communication & Marketing. During his four year tenure in this position, Emens has carefully crafted multimedia content to foster and grow the social reach of the CI brand.

As an official Social Media Governance Practitioner and seasoned multimedia designer, he is uniquely positioned to provide insight and analysis of best practices for social media. Emens frequently consults with small businesses that are entering the social realm, and has several clients in the Southern California area. Emens earned his undergraduate degree in Art from California State University, Long Beach.
